WOULD A TRADES PERSON CONSIDER PAINTING A MAGHOGANY FIRE SURROUND CREAM OR IS IT BEST TO BUY A NEW SURROUND?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. I’d use methylated spirit and a rag to wipe over the whole surround. Then give it a good sand down with sandpaper. Dust as much off as possible, then again use the methylated spirit to clean it off. Then you can use something like a Dulux supergrip primer or likewise. Even the Zinsser brand will be perfect for this. Then 1 or 2 undercoats and a gloss or 1 undercoat and 2 satinwood or eggshell. Others may have a different method but I’ve never had a problem with this method. Hope it helps.

Hi, yes I would be happy to paint a fire surround. A good clean first. Sand with various grades of sandpaper. dust off and clean. Apply 1 coat of good quality primer. Apply 1 coat of undercoat. Sand lightly with very fine sandpaper. dust off and clean. Apply 2 top coats.

I would say yes if thats what u desire. A good decorator should know from experience what prep is required and what paint to use especially preparatory primers

The simple answer would be yes,but I would recommend costing out first, there would be quite a bit of prep work involved, which will push up labour cost,so it could work out cheaper to replace
