Moving the gas meter to an adjacent cupboard in proximity of the boiler

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

We're looking to move our gas meter from one cupboard (that is to be removed) to the adjacent cupboard in which our combi boiler is also located. We could not see any restrictions on how close the gas meter can be to the boiler but wanted to check if any restrictions exist. We were told that this could be done by a gas-certified engineer, if possible. Are there any restrictions and how big of a job is this? Any comments more than appreciated! Thank you!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Points to consider when re-locating a domestic gas meter: 1. The meter must be installed in such a way that it can be easily isolated in an emergency 2. The meter must be installed in such a way that it can be easily accessed for any future maintenance work 3. A secondary Emergency Control Valve (ECV) must be fitted local to the meter and a sign fixed to the primary ECV stating the presence and location of this valve. 4. The down stream gas supply from the primary ECV must be installed in steel pipe to the secondary ECV 5. This work can only be undertaken by a Gas Safe engineer with a MET1 qualification. (most important) 6. Above all the relocation must be practical, legal and safe, and has adequate ventilation so if a gas leak does occur it has an escape route to the outside (a simple air vent will suffice)
