Patchy Paint Finish

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi. I had my bathroom ceiling and walls plasterboared and had them skimmed over. I have now painted the ceiling and walls with dulux sealer for new plaster first then put four coats of top paint on top but both ceiling and walls are still patchy. I thought four coats of paint would be more than enough. What do you think the problem is. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The dulux sealer did its job but has probably prevented the paint from being absorbed by the plaster. Paint for new plaster is designed to be used without sealers, it soaks in esp on the mist coats and that combined with it being a high obliteration paint, usually creates a uniform white finish for your top coats. If you are using bathroom paints then these usually are not the best paint for obliteration ( there qualities are elsewhere) You could either try more coats of the paint you have first or i would try a coat of valspar trade/v700, either in white or if you're using a colour have it tinted to match. The valspar trade, v700 create very good obliteration.

This is unusual, if the paint you are using as a top coat is not very good or not been mixed enough it will cause this problem. Are you leaving enough time between coats? Do you have a damp issue or constantly changing temperatures where you are painting?

Unusual. Are you leaving enough time between each coat and did you also stir paint before using?
