Boiler condensate pipe

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi, Apologies if i get some terminologies wrong as i am complete novice in plumbing world. In our newly bought house, worcester 28i boiler( installed in loft) packed up recently due to frozen condensate pipe. We got it working for now after engineer came and fixed it but we noticed that condensate pipe (22mm )externally has two joints and is totally horizontal. There is a chance of it freezing again so I now want to correct this job by adding worcester condenSure syphon and changing pipe to 32mm and rerouting to another direction and terminate it into guttering rainwater down pipe. Would anyone advise if condensure will help and can i terminate in rainwater pipe which i dont know where its going because its going into the ground at the front of the property. Also if this is all good how would i connect 32mm pipe to external downpipe, what possible parts do i need.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Condense waste should be 40mm externally to stop it from freezing. if you are connecting it into a down pipe you will need a 68mm branch (y ) this will mean theres a gap around the 40mm pipe and the branch. Also known as an air break. if the down pipe blocks up it will not back fill to the boiler which will void the guarantee on the boiler if the down pipe did back up to the boiler

Hi the condensesure trap from Worcester just neutralise the condense water so that it can go into your gutter. Without the trap, you have to bring it to a waste pipe. So basically this doesn't prevent it from freezing. My advise is to replace the 22 condense pipe to a 1½inch waste pipe with a slight fall to your waste or stack. Other thing to try is to insulate the condense pipe with sleeves.
