Brackish water in toilet bowl

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I keep getting brackish water in my toilet bowl. After 12 hours it’s quite bad, after a long flush it recedes to almost nothing. The water in the tank is clear, and it appears to be coming back from the u bend. It’s a 1900 terraced house. I’m lost as to what it is. Could it be rust from a pipe? What is it and how do I fix it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There are to many questions to ask and not enough info to help you. I agree that it most probably is coming from the toilet stack. 1- Do you have an upstairs bathroom connected to the same down-stack. 2- How close is the toilet to the down-stack. 3- Does it only happen when upstairs is flushed? 4- Is the basin connected to the same stack. Are you having problems with the bath or basin draining away? You could have a partial blockage and it's not allow the waste to go away completely. I'd keep an eye on it and check if it gets worst cause it costs a lot over Christmas.
