Shower tray - cracks re-appear between tiles & leak downstairs

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

Hi, the shower cubicle leaks because horizontal cracks appear between the tiles ONE ROW ABOVE the rigid plastic shower cubicle. Behind tiles are vertical batterns with plasterboard - yes a shoddy job by the previous owners. Anyway how's the best way to avoid the horizontal crack reappearing every few months without having to re-tile the whole cubicle using marine or aqua board- I'm using flexible tile adhesive already?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The best way to avoid/stop further damage is to remove the unreliable tiling along with the plasterboard, check the water feeds for possible leak then refit with misture resistant plasterboard, seal the lot and retile using water resistant adhesive and grout. Best way to ensure success apart from competency is the choice of quality materials.

sounds like the shower tray is moving as well it needs to be taken out and re set tiles off and a waterproof membrane (tanking) put on the wall, re tile wall and set the tiles that sit on the tray 3mm off to allow for any movment
