My mixer shower is either scalding hot or freezing cold?

Shower was taken out to fix a leak, and then reconnected. Leak is now fixed apparently. However shower is either literally scalding or freezing. I've got mixer taps all round the house and no problem. The guy who did the work says (without looking at it again) that it must be a problem with the valve and I'll need to contact whoever I bought it from. Is this likely?! Should I be suggesting they swap the feeds over? I think he'll be reluctant to do this as the way it's connected the feeds are under the tray so that would mean taking the whole tray out...

Possibly installed in upsidedown, i would want to check which side the hot and cold go to on the shower valve. Hot is always on the left. Maybe run the shower and try and feel (on the valve) which side warms up. Should be left if piped up correctly
