Gas stove into Flue Block Chimney

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi. I have bought a gas stove (wood burner lookalike). The property I want to install it in has a flue block construction chimney (rectangular profile) where a gas fire once stood. The question is can I block off the bottom where the original gas fire sat and then core drill into the flue block at a 45 degree angle to insert a round flue pipe off the gas stove which will be free standing away from the wall? Thanks, any help much appreciated!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would advise not to do diy. I am not trained in gas fires but I'm sure the principles are the same. All exhausts from fires are dangerous. The chimney if brick could have cracks or holes in it which may allow fumes (carbon monoxide) into your house posing great danger. Liners are used for this application to ensure airtight exhaust is maintained, your request I'm sure could be done for the look side of it. We all love to diy but this is one of those jobs that just to save a few pounds is just too risky and I'm sure should be signed off as being safe by a tradesman with the correct qualifications he would probably be the same guy who connect it to the gas. These next few weeks are the busiest so be nice when you call and be patient if they are late, crotchety or even move your slot to the next day they are just trying to keep everybody happy and probably working late every night with their other half moaning that they are never home on time. oh and their dinners in the dog . There will be one on this sight hope this helps, health is more precious than money.
