Gap between wood door and wood frame is showing white paint of casing

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

Hope the title makes sense. My son has replaced the doors in his flat with wooden ones and has also had wooden architraves and skirting fitted. However when the doors are shut you can see the white painted casing which he is not happy about. Should he have had the casing replaced? Should the carpenter have suggested this. What is the best way of sorting this? Thanks.

Hi. To replace the door frame can be quite a big job, especially if it takes the plaster off with it. Usually a carpenter would say something if your having all wood doors and skirting etc. The easiest option, other than rip it all out, is to strip back the paint with nitromors. Hope this helps.

Not sure if I understand the question but if your door casing is painted then of course it is going to show. Should the door casing have been replaced?...I dunno, depends on what you agreed with your carpenter about what you required. Anyway as the post above says either fit a new door frame or strip the paintwork, if you want a bare timber finish all around. Nitromors works but you can also use a hot air paint stripper or both depending on how many layers of paint need removing.
