Balcony door come out of frame at the top

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

We have a door to our balcony that is basically one pane of glass with a white outline, maybe a upvc door, basically someone didn't turn the handle all the way and when we open it the top half of the door falls forward so we have to push it forward to open it. The hinge is on the top and bottom of the door. Any more information please ask.

This sounds like it may be a Tilt and Turn door which has the option to work as a door or like a window. The handle has two operation positions. Turning the handle 90 degrees will allow the door to swing open as usual while turning the handle a further 90 degrees (with the door closed) allows the door to drop at the top for ventilation, the drop can be inwards or outwards depending on whether the door is inward or outward opening and for some doors the first 90 degrees will allow the drop with the second 90 degree rotation allowing the swing depending on how the manufacturer has designed the mechanism. If your door is dropping when it shouldn't this can be down to some of the keeps along the top of the frame requiring realigning or the top arm may be damaged. It's probably best to call a local locksmith out to assess it and provide a free estimate for repairing it. Please see the link for a video on operation of tilt and turn doors. The video is of double inward opening doors but works on the same principle as single inward or outward opening doors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3waiQq-WfI

This is a common problem with A tilt and turn door. I suggest the door needs to be remove and assess the rollers and rail, replace if needed. Also lightly oil all working parts and clean.
