Can I remove this metal bar from the cupboard?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
In a house I recently purchased there’s a metal bar running through the kitchen cupboard at knee height making the cupboard useless. It runs through the wall at each side. I assume it’s not structurally required but obviously I’d like to be sure before cutting it out. I have pictures of it. Thanks.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is not an easy question to answer, but the bar sounds suspicious and warrants further investigation. You mention that the bar runs through the walls on either side which makes me think it could be structural, as in it is providing lateral restraint to the walls. Equally, it could be an old gas main, or electrical conduit, which may or may not be carrying live services. Beware and do some further investigation before taking your hack saw to it.
