Bricklaying & Repointing

Lintel Replacement and Brick Support around window?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.33 PM

I have just purchased a property and have stripped the kitchen plaster back to brick ready to be boarded, The kitchen Window is also getting replaced so I have removed the old wooden boarding around the window and removed the window sill. I am trying to make sense of the support surrounding the lintel and why there is a gap between the brick work (Is that for insulation between the double brick) Im more concerned about the wooden lintel being safe which seems to be attached to the main joist and the brick work up the the lintel from the bottom of the window is like jenga. I will post a video of it shortly and I hope someone can help me make sense of it? Cheers!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As you have found an old wooden lintel it should be removed and replaced with a pre-stressed concrete one make sure you prop the brickwork above the opening first with tall boy props hope this helps pj
