Recent loss of hot water to bathroom
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
Hello, Hoping someone can help or give any suggestions. We've recently had a sudden drop of hot water in the shower (as in over night sudden) and possibly to bathroom tap too and not sure why. Shower is hose connected to mixer tap. The hot water flow to the taps in the bathroom have never been that great but the drop recently has occurred suddenly. We have a combi boiler, hot water to kitchen tap is fine, heating seems fine and boiler pressure is fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks, Andy

In many cases this problem can be noticed in that time of year. Water temperature (from mains) is much lower than about month ago, but your boiler has the same power, about 24 kW. It means, that hot water won't be as hot as in the summer, as there is a drop about 5-6 degrees just in one month. Your boiler is fed from the mains, and water coming to the house is now very cold. That's why you notice a difference. Your tap mixes water in the same way, but it got now 'colder' cold water, and smaller amount of the hot water coming from the boiler. So finally there is a smaller amount of hot water, or is the same like before, but the temperature of it is lower.

The mixer shower has filters fitted on the inlet side of both hot & cold, they maybe be partially blocked with debris. You need to isolate bot H & C water
to the mixer shower locally (if possible) and dismantle the mixer shower and check for debris.
