Help! Can I flue a ground floor gas fire under first floor floorboards?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.33 PM

Any answers welcomed! I live in a first floor flat - I propose to remove a load bearing wall containing a chimney. It has recently come to light that the property below has a gas fire of which flue runs through the wall I want to remove. They will not understandably allow any work in their apartment or switch to an electric fire. Could I run the flue under my floor or raise the level of my floor to allow the flue to then come up and out of an external wall (chimney is not on external wall). If possibly please advise possible loss of floor height and what technologies might be required to draw the gases.

See the link below, it is a basic technical bulletin/FAQ's for home owners. Please read it carefully as this will help you decide the correct course of action! https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help-and-advice/gas-safety-in-the-home/get-your-appliances-checked/flues-in-voids/flues-in-voids-faqs/ Even though the above document relates to boiler flues you have to apply the same criteria, as the purpose of a gas fired appliances flue's is to SAFELY transport the products of combustion to atmosphere e.g. Carbon Monoxide
