Gas Works

Reconnecting a capped off gas supply

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.33 PM

I am going to be installing gas central heating in my property but the gas was capped off many years ago and now needs recapping, can any qualified gas engineers do this or I am best to get national grid etc to do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I can only assume you mean uncapping - and it depends on what has been capped. If the gas has been capped after the meter then it can be rectified by a Gas Safe engineer. If it has been capped off at the ECV (Gas on/off valve in meter box) and there is currently no meter connected then you will need to contact the Gas Supplier to install a meter for you. Once this has been done a Gas Safe engineer can connect to the central heating. Hope this helps

You will need to get the gas board to reconnect and install new gas meter if no meter is present
