Insulation

Eaves insulation

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

My early victorian, end of terrace house had aloft conversion 7 years ago. I believe the builders followed all regulations as far as insulation goes, but the room in the loft is considerably colder than the rest of the house. Should I insulate the large eaves area more? I have considered applying some multi-layer foil to the pitched roof rafters. Any advice please?

You shouldn't insulate right into the eaves because the timber in the roof needs some airflow to stay dry and not rot away. The eaves should have been insulated during the loft conversion process either on the rafter or in the dwarf walls which support the roof. If not there is no reason why you cannot do it yourself using multi layer foil. Just have to watch that you don't block any air-flow. Kind Regards Martin
