My first floor floorboards are falling through

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

My first floor floorboards are falling through. Some have completely dropped in one bedroom and others are moving and sinking on the landing and the other bedroom on the other side of the house. The master bedroom floor seems to be fine. The other two rooms are for my children and my 1 year old son cant play in his room because of the hole in his floor. What could be causing this? The house was built in the 1940's and is an ex-council house.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It could be a number of things but 1st thing I would check for is dryrot. Take a board up near the wall and check. Have you got a leaking radiator near by. Or maybe the bathroom has a leak. Check and get back to me. Hope this helps

It seems like the joists may be moving they could be sunk in to pockets in the brickwork and the ends are rotting away. it could be quite a simple fix if caught early enough. plenty of remedial firms will give a survey service or just hire a good builder. Regards Martin
