Sealing and painting screed flooring in a domestic situation
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
Hi. Recently had an underfloor heating system installed in new extension, cloakroom and utility rooms adjoining existing kitchen. New parts all on same block with UFH and a gypsum based Anhydrite screed. Preexisting kitchen floor concrete which needs some reparations with levelling compound. As building costs have escalated now want to cut costs by not tiling. Hoping to create a ‘polished concrete’ look throughout the whole area without the high cost this seems to imply. Any ideas regarding feasibility, materials needed and, if possible?

I would highly advise against doing so, if you ever want to put down a decorative flooring in the future your prep costs will be astronomical any paint you use will need to be mechanically removed before anything can be installed, the mess and cost isn't something I would advise you ignore and any flooring you want to install make sure the fitter is aware you have an anhydrite screed because they will have to use a gypsum based levelling compound to avoid serious complications.
