Gallows Brackets for Chimney Breast Removal

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

I am having a double chimney breast removed and have been advised by the structural engineer that I can use gallow brackets. However I am unable to find the bracket measurements that he has specified in his drawings online or in any shops. I can find brackets that are close to the measurements but not exact. Do you know how accurate the brackets have to be. Does it mean I will have to have them custom made ? I suspect this will cost a lot. Summary of measurements below. 80 x 80 x 8 Equal angle Vertical Length- 500mm Width - 300mm Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi frank if you can't find the gallow bracket you need then yes you will need to have them made, any good engineer near you should make them for you. If you taking the chimney breast out up to the loft space then you could double joist the beams both ways and then slide a 4mm plate on the joist for load bearing
