RSJ Installation - looks off to me

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

Edit: I linked to some pictures that seem to have been removed. We had an RSJ installed 3years ago when we had a wall knocked through. We've noticed that the floor above has become increasingly bouncy, with cracks appearing in the corners of the doorwary in the floor above the RSJ, and also around the plasterboard surrounding it. Work was signed off by building regs but starting to have doubts. Thoughts?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If it was my house I would take up some floor boards and inspect what’s going on. If your local authority did pass it get them back out. In some cases you get movement cracks this is caused by deflection of load placed on the steel after being fitted.

Bets choice is to lift the floor oatds and check how much the RSJ is resting on padstone and if it is bolted.

Sounds as if not enough bearing or steel not adequate. ALL steels need a minimum of 100mm bearing. We always aim for 225mm minimum which is a full brick. Steels are dependant on what they need to support in this case it would be a minimum of a 203 102. 23kg+
