New Mixer Tap Shower Loses Pressure When Cold Is Turned On Either Before Or After Hot?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
My mum recently had a chap come round and install a standard mixer tap with pull nozzle to switch between bath and shower. Cold runs by bath and shower on its own. But as soon as the hot is turned on the shower loses pressure (BUT ONLY WHEN USING THE SHOWER) - The bath pressure increases as you’d expect when running 2 taps. Is there any simple explanations at all? Both valves on the pipe work are turned on fully and both the shower and taps are brand new. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you have to check is if the cold is coming off of the mains and the hot is coming from a hot water storage cylinder.
If this is the case the pressure from the cold is greater than the pressure from the hot and this will cause pressure differences when mixing the water for the shower.
The same thing will happen if the hot water is coming from a combination boiler and the cold water is coming from a cold water storage tank.
There will be a difference in pressure when trying to mix the hot and cold water.
Hope this explanation helps.

He's Right ...you could go down 2 roads fit NRV'S OR PRV'S or install a pump or sometimes both .Rich. R.P.PLUMBING
