Chimney & Fireplace

Reinstating a chimney breast

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

I live in an Edwardian mid terrace. The chimney breast was removed by the previous owner in the downstairs lounge but still remains in the room directly above which also has a a fire place (obvioulsy unused at the moment). The chimney stack is also still there. We would like to reinstate the chimney breast and introduce a fire in the lounge downstairs but do not need a fire to be working in the room above. So,where would I need to begin in terms of getting a quote and what tradesmen carries out this type of work?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Get a structural engineers advice on this before you start doing any work. The engineer will provide you with a report and guidelines for you to carry out the works. I hope this helps

Would check with the council to see that you are not in a smokeless zone before spending money on structural engineers. Good luck alex
