Is there an alternative to plastering? I need a temporary fix for about a year. Someone mentioned using lining paper. Could you please advise

Hi. Lining paper is often a viable (and in some cases better) alternative to a plaster re-skim.
The issue is that the finished result will only be as good as the preperation that is put in.
Assuming that the walls you want improved are in a poor condition, then they will need to be prepped.
This can be done using a good quality filler such as toupret or dry-lining filler such as easifill.
The aim is to achieve a smooth surface by filling and abrading. The technique on broadwall is called surfacing.
The aim of a smooth surface is not just aesthetic, its to attain 100% of the lining paper attached to the wall. Then when painted, no bubbles appear or lifting of seams etc.
After surfacing i size with pva/water dilution, 1 to 4 or 1 to 5.
I select 1200 grade lining paper, a good quality ready mixed adhesive.
When papered dilute the first (mist) coat of paint, similar process to painting new plaster.
