crack in the wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

There is a long crack of about 1 cm hight where the wall meets the ceiling on the hallway and the bathroom on the first floor of my house. Is it a major structural problem or just needs minor decoration job.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Difficult to give you a definitive awnser on here. Important considerations are: Have you lived in the property for a number of years and this is a recent occurence? If so then it would be advisable to try and get someone to take a look. Cracks like these can occur on new build properties or on refurbishments, the timbers used may not have been fully seasoned or exposed to moisture. The full drying ( and therefore shrinkage) occurs when the property is lived in, going through many temperature changes. This causes movement across the ceilings and broadwall, typically cracks in the place where they meet occurs. The crack can be filled either with decorators caulk or filler ( easifill dry lining filler is best for this) Or a good solution is to fit coving. Hope this helps
