Can you pregrit vinyl silk on plasterboard then skim over it

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

Plasterer i have has had difficulty putting a skim over plasterboard which has had a mist coat of vinyl silk. Can thistle bond it be used on plasterboard prior to 2 coat skimming ? Told me he can't do it and wants to rip out the drywall and replace the whole lot adding to his bill.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

if you green grit it as they say. and give it a tight coat of bonding and scim it that should be fine i have never had trouble before and i have been plastering for over 45 years and using bonding most of the time on different jobs never had any comebacks

Hi, I personally have carried this out a number of times successfully. The only reason thistle bond would not work is if there was either artex on the walls or distemper in the paint used, which is difficult to comment on without viewing in person.

Hello there. I would sand the surface or the plasterboard lightly scoring the paint to create a good key for the multi finish. This should remove the sheen finish enough for the multi finish to soak into the board may take a while to go off hope this helps
