Best way to make varnished pine skirting boards white
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
Hi, I was wondering if you’d be able to let me know the best way to transform my awful pine (varnished) skirting boards to white. I also have it running up the side of the stairs and around the doors. Many thanks

Sanding is always the best way to prepare a surface to accept new paint. This is especially true with a varnished surface. So sand back the pine lightly removing any and all of the shine .It may clump together, this is fine, just replace your sand paper regularly.Fill any imperfections and sand back those areas ready to prime .Use a wood primer of your choice, oil or water based.Oil based Zinnser is extremely expensive and difficult to use but is excellent.Water based primers are cheaper, easier to use and just as good these days, especially for indoors .So once you've chosen primer, spot prime filled areas. leave to dry(10/20mins) then undercoat whole area. Now your ready for topcoat👍🏼 happy days!!
