Artex on a wall can I paper over it

Somebody has artexed my feature wall it's quite subtle so can I paper over it

Hi Gillian_311 Papering over wouldn't really be a very good long term option, even if the artex is only a subtle depth. Skimming over with a couple of layers of plaster is probably best, making sure the artex is cleaned and sealed with a generous amount of watered-down PVA. You could also use a steamer to soften the artex and scrape it off (BUT if you know, or believe, the artex was applied 30 years ago or more it may well have asbestos in it so this is not a safe option!). Be careful not to leave the steamer in the same place for too long as this will damage plaster underneath. Also you could consider plasterboarding over, though this is relatively expensive and a hard job to get right! Hope that helps :)
