How long for steel delivery according to structural survey

How long does it take to get steels ordered and delivered? my builders have told me they have to be fabricated and he will have a date for me on Monday? I thought that they could just be ordered and delivered in 2 days. There has been no work done on the site in 2.5 weeks. He did tell me that he had done loads of extensions but I am concerned that he may not have the experience. Thank you - you have just confirmed what I suspected Given that the extension groundwork and brickwork have been done- will it do anydamage to the ground work if he leaves them for an extended period open to rain, wind and frost or should I just hire somebody else. I want to get the job done before Christmas He has taken a 2k deposit
