Could shower pump cutting out after 10 minutes because of water being too hot?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Hi. We have a Torrent Centrifrugal twin impellar shower pump. It's been absolutely fine for over 18 months but now cuts out when the shower has been running for about 10 minutes. A couple of other strange things that happen every now and again - the pump starts up when we turn kitchen tap on and only stops when we run the shower AND wants jaults out as if there's trapped air. Could a cause be that the water temperature is too hot? We tried turning thermostat down on hot water tank but no change. Just read today how to use thermostat on the actual fure (we have Baxi Burmuda back boiler) so have turned it down so i'll see if that makes a difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Its quite possible the size of your cold water storage tank is not sufficient in size to continually feed your pump especially if you have a drencher shower head and your running the shower for 10 mins or more! Running the tank low would then cause air to be dragged into the pump and cause some of the problems your experiencing! If you speak with the pump manufacturers they will tell you the correct size of tank you need to run your shower. Thanks rich rjm plumbing and gas Ltd.
