Dismantling upvc porch

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

We have a basic upvc porch at the front of our house that we'd like to remove (erected by previous owners) It is very flimsy and doesn't have any brick walls at the bottom, just glazed panels and a door. How is this likely to be attached to the house and therefore how can it be removed without damaging the render? Any other things to consider? It is likely to be beyond our abilities but want to know what's involved before finding someone for the job. Thanks

A fairly simple job with the right tools and a little muscle. The Porch will most likely have been fitted using anchor fixings or concrete screws. After taking all the glass out by removing beads, you should be able to see the fixings (bear in mind t30 head concrete screws may have been used in which case you will need the correct torx bit to remove). Work backwards by taking off the roof section and then dismantling the separate frames a section at a time (likely connected using a coupling bar and some standard screws). It should now be a case of cutting any sealant with a sharp stanley knife and gently pulling the remaining frame away from the wall. Depending on the roof type, some kind of flashing would have been fitted along the porch roof to wall abutment, if this has been chased in then you'll will need to consider what steps to take to make this good post removal. Best case scenario some small filling around perished render and repaint, worst case would be to get the whole area re rendered. Hope this helps.
