Mould on inside of outside facing walls upstairs in house

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hi Any advice on this one when the temp drops every year i get green mould appearing on the inside of the 2 outside facing walls of my house I run a music business from home so have racking in the room which is heated and I make sure nothing is touching the walls. There is also a large gap between the wall and the boxes on the racking to allow air to circulate. I admit the windows are not opened much in the room but the window vents are always open. It leads to moisture spots on the cds in storage . Any storage advice you can give please or measures to prevent this happening on the walls ? Stupid question probably but it drives me crazy lost a lost of stock last year due to it thanks :-)

Have you considered a dehumidifier? A good one (£200 upwards) could help control the moisture in the air in the room, the aim to rectify the condensation at source. With good dehumidifiers you can set the relative humidity ( mine has 50, 60, 70% settings) the dehumidifier will kick in automatically to keep the humidity at the set level

Sounds to me like water is getting in from above either through the roof or maybe through the soffits or fascia boards or around the windows. It only takes a tiny hole. Water getting in can cause a lot of damage and to many fungus spores can cause health problems. Many people think sealing the walls will cure the damp but you need to find where the water is getting in. I hope this information helps
