Alternative to pressure water pump?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hi. So here's the situation.. About to re-do my old bathroom and would really, really like to remove the old electric shower and replace it with a 'proper' shower, with good pressure and the taps attached to the wall. Now - in my flat (built 25 years ago) there's an airing cupboard which stores a large tank, and above it a smaller, rectangular black water box. No gas in the flat, just electrics. No central heating, either. I am told that the only way for me to have good water pressure in the shower is to install a pressure pump, but I am also told that this would be very inconvenient for me and the neighbours, due to noise and vibrations. Could anyone advise if there is any alternative to pressure pumps, which doesn't cost thousands of £££ like a combi boiler would (which I don't think I could install anyway as there's no gas in the flat?). Thanks all a million.

You may see benefits if you install a salamander pump onto the hot and cold system, with a rubber mat underneath it in the airing cupboard. The mat will decrease the sound of the vibrations for the period of time which the pump is in use. That should increase the pressure of the water making it viable to install thermostatic shower.

you have a gravity system your only option is to pump the hot and cold services, with rubber mat and boxing in to keep noise down,or if you have enough pressure and volume on your in coming water main you could fit an unvented cylinder giving you mains pressure hot and cold services.
