Prep prior to decorating - mould on walls, cracks around window

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Need assistance please on the type of tradesmen I need to assist with the following issues before I redecorate daughters bedroom: There have been 2 separate patches of mould on the wall near the ceiling of my daughter’s bedroom (an exterior facing wall) which I have cleaned off with mould spray - one last winter and one last week. The wall feels neither damp nor cold Furthermore following a period of very severe heavy rain earlier this year, water leaked in which although fully dried resulted in cracks to the plaster surrounding the window. The window is relatively new and doesn’t need replacing We now want to decorate the bedroom but would like know the best tradesman to sort both the mould issue and to dress/repair the wall around the window. Any help gratefully received so I can post job appropriately

Hi. A good and experienced decorator will be able to sort these issues as part of decorating the room. A lot of jobs im asked to do involve problems of one sort or another, with experience and a good knowledge of applicable products, i can always resolve them. On the basis that there is no ongoing issues with water ingress/damp id treat the areas where the mould was with zinnser b.i.n. 2 coats and not only does it block any stains it also blocks spores from re-emerging and producing mould re-growth. The areas of blown plaster i would likely remove and make good with patching plaster/toupret filler etc. If i felt it neccesary i would line the affected wall with lining paper too, prime that and then the usual prep and paint.

Any decorator should be able to sort all of these problems in the preperation stage of the redecoration

condensation can cause lots of problems like this .warm air contains lots of moisture. it condensates when reaching a cold surface . i've seen lots of times loft insulation is not installed correctly it needs to go right to and slightly over inner skin of house
