Removing artex, how to tell if asbestos
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.35 PM
We have the drip effect artex all over the h/s/l which we were told would need to be skimmed before plastering and painting the wall. I've heard that it's possible there could be asbestos in the artex and if this is the case would need to lock down the house in order for the work to be completed. How do I find out if there is asbestos in the artex and who would do this? Would any decorator that we hire be able to do this? Thanks

You would have to scrape a sample from the wall and send it away for analaysis. There is no other way of telling . The plasterer can plaster over it though without any problem so that would be your best bet

You will either need to take a sample yourself, and send it to a registered company for testing, or hire a company to extract the sample for you and they will test the sample for asbestos, then issue you with the results. All artex needs to be tested unless professionally told otherwise. Decorators will be in touch with artex specialists but it is always best to contact one yourself.
