What is The Approx price to fit a mains powered smoke alarm

Would like to know a guide how to fit a smoke alarm in a 1 bedroom flat and how many smoke alarms i would need in the flat Additional info: The property is a small one bedroom flat on one floor with an open plan kitchen. The fuse board is located in the hallway just outside the front door of the property. I would imagine the best place for the wired smoke alarm to be is the hallway (off the hall is the bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room which leads onto the open plan kitchen). I am not too sure if one will also have to be installed in the kitchen/living room area. I would prefer if all cables were hidden. Will I also have to notify the local authority of the intended works?
