Bricklaying & Repointing

Asking the right person about structural alteration to garage

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.32 PM

Hi, I am trying to get some interested builder to assist in advising and quoting for some structural work on my old double garage. Broadly it requires removal of two old metal windows/lintels and brickwork so as to create two new door entries and enable the fitting of roller doors. There have been no response to my job post which was to bricklayers. Is this potential job not directed at the right work group?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need the openings created with strong boys taking the structural weight. Depend on size of opening you will either need concrete lintels or a steel beam which would also require pad stones. But I would make sure all structures are correctly supported either you will open a can of worms
