Chimney & Fireplace
What to buy when getting a salvaged fireplace? Dripping noise heard as well...
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 2.53 PM
Hi,
Live in a detached house built in 1900's. All chimney stacks removed and fireplaces boarded up however in the dining room and bedroom we can hear dripping when it rains. Both sound like the rain is hitting a metal plate. Unsure what/who to call out.
Also looking to put in a salvaged gas fire place, do I literally need the mantel, inset and fire for someone to install?
Thanks, Lorna
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi Lorna
As for your dripping sound all I can think of without looking would be that water is dripping on a blanking plate or register plate, because you have the attacks removed though would suggest a roof leak,
As for gas stove you would have to have the chimney lined or or new flue installed then someone to fit the fire and a gas safe fitter to attach gas and sign off
Allen.
