Adhesive for Ceramic Tiles onto Ditra Matting

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Hi-I will be installing Ditra matting the a plywood subfloor using ultrabond Eco VS90 but need to know what adhesive to use when laying the ceramic tiles onto the ditra once it has been put in place? I currently have Ardex X7G (Standard setting flexible adhesive) for the job. Is this adhesive good to use for this? or is a non-flexible adhesive better

Hi, I would adise popping into topps tiles, as they have the BAL products, these are in my experience the best tile adhesive that can be used, I have never had a problem with them, even when tiling a ceiling in a wet shower room. i refuse to use any other brands because we always give gaurantees to our work. now plywood is a very vulnerable material in bathrooms, as if water does penetrate through to it, then it will cause alot of problems. we normally use hardie backer cement boards that come in 8 to 12mm of thickness, these laid on top of a floor surface and sealed properly will make sure you have no problems, however the Ditra Matting is now a widely used new method. In my opinion, not that you have to take my word for it, however good to acknowledge and do your homework, I recommend you should use BAL max-flex fibre adhesive, BAL rapid flex fibre plus adhesive, or BAL single part flexible adhesive. these are all very durable, sustainable against water, and allow for flexibility and any other movement or temperature changes. I hope this helps.
