Removal of internal wall and insertion of windpost as lateral support

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Hello, We are looking to remove the internal wall between our kitchen and dining room. After using the services of a structural engineer to establish whether the wall is load baring, it appears although it is not taking any load from above it is providing lateral suppprt to a section of external wall. I am awaiting the full report from the structural engineer, however I just wanted advice regarding the use of a wind post as support to the external wall - am I right in assuming it provides the same function as an RSJ only vertically instead of horizontally? And is this something most builders would be experienced in doing?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You are correct, the windpost will act as a vertical support to prevent the external wall from bowing inwards, as that wall has always had another wall joining it, Effectively is it a 100mm box section steel bolted down with brackets bolted to the wall, most builders should be ok installing this, I hope this helps
