Metal hood needed for new fireplace so smoke goes up chimney and NOT into living room
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
I have a small fire opening about 15 and 3/8ths [ inches ] wide . It has a marble surround .The first fire i lit inside was a disaster- smoke came pouring back into the room. It needs a metal hood which i guess has to be custom made. Where do i find one and what kind of trademan should i look for installing it? Can a tv be mounted above a small fireplace with a hood? lastly , how often should a chimney be swept- does that relate to how much it is used? In advance, thank you for any advise

It sounds to me that the fire isn’t drawing to well so I would suggest that you check the chimney pots,to see that if you have got any cowling on them and if so it’s the right type for an open fire, get the chimney swept, this should be done every 12 months if the fire is in use, I would not recommend wall mounting a tv above an open fire as the heat will affect the television, as for the hood a small one can be fitted just as an extra benefit the fire,
Hope this helps
