Ask a questionChimney & Fireplace
Do I need a vent in the wall where a fireplace used to be
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.12 PM
If the chimney is open but the fireplace has been blocked is a vent needed in the wall where the fireplace once was?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Block it up with bricks . Leave a small vent to help air flow . Cover the chimney pot with a rain cowl to stop water coming down . The vent will help with condensation issues arising .

Hi, Yes you need to put a vent in to allow for ventilation, you will also need to fit a rain guard on the top of the chimney to stop rain.
Hope this helps,
Kind regards,

Sorry Thought you still had fire with last comment. Yes best to put vent in to help with condensation. You can get wats called a half moon terminal to help air flow also.
