Periodic inspection report or Installation cert for an extension
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
Hi - I had an extension (5x3) done to the rear of my house and after the work is done, my builder brought in an electrician and got a PIR report. Council came in for final check and is telling that i needed an installation cert: and not PIR!! Does anyone know if PIR is enough for covering electrical sign off on extensions? Thank you, Raj

No it isn't. You need an Electrical Installation Certificate or Minor Works Certificate, depending on the nature of the work carried out. You have been had I'm afraid. An EICR is for existing work, whoever installed it ( preferably a registered electrician) should do all the certification and testing etc. Looks like the builder has got anyone in to do it tbh.

You need an electrical installation certificate. A PIR is a report of the condition of an existing installation and not a new one.

I suspect the electrician can only give a EICR as he would not accept responsibility/liability and sign off as, designing, erecting and testing the his install.
