Laying floor on top of parquet
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
Under my hall way carpet I have discovered parquet, it is uneven and broken in areas so my guess is that it has been down for years. I want to have laminate or carpet laid over the top and have been advised that if is boarded with ply first that it will be ok. However i am not confident and have heard stories of the floor starting to lift or rock. Please could anyone advise?

Hi
The old parquet was stuck down with tar basically. Over time, it dries out, goes brittle and ultimately starts to pop. So would not just board it and go
Lift it and screed ? Or there actually is an adhesive made by Sikabond to lay over bitumen. You'll probably be able to sell the parquet on if the quality is decent also. Bonus :)
Hope this helps

Hi, personally what I would do if take up the parquet floor exposing the (presumably) screed floor underneath, then get some good quality foil back underlay and lay your laminate on top of that. Hope this helps, Sean.
