Sliding door for kitchen

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi, I'm looking to convert a hinged door between my kitchen and hallway to sliding. The house is a fairly new terrace build (around 10 years) with two storeys. Kitchen is in the ground floor opening out to the hallway which has the main entrance, living room and stairway. The door now is a heavy fire door with hinges and a spring loaded auto close. While I've requested for quotes, it is unclear to me if a sliding door is compliant with fire and other building safety regulations. Apperciate your inputs on this. Also, assuming it is ok to do this, how do I get the work certified after completion.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there I'm going to say no it won't comply as there will be air gaps on both sides would will rule out any certification with the door. The intermecent strip would be totally redundant. Hope that helps

It can comply with fire regs you just need to know what you are doing, you can buy pocket firedoor sets or you can build your own. Hope this helps NTS
