Removal of trees without TPO

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.11 PM

I have a number of trees I'd like to remove within our boundary. Two quite small and one larger, about 18" diameter. There are no TPO's and we aren't within a conservation area. Am I within my rights to remove these without notifying the council (which I don't really want to do !) Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hiya no tpo and not in conservation hack away I would say, especially if they are small trees there would be no issues with council

Hello, if there aren't any TPO's on the trees or you do not live in a conservation area then you should be ok. The only other restriction I can think of is if you live in a designated 'area of outstanding natural beauty' where you would need to inform the council for any major works. If not then no need for any consent from the council.

If they are your trees, not under TPO and not in a conservation area then legally you are in your rights to remove them. Be careful on that 18" one though!

If the trees are on your land, and you own the land not a council property etc, no TPO on trees, not in SSSI land and so on then you don't have to inform anyone about removing the trees. I would highly recommend getting a professional tree surgeon in to do the job though.
