Increasing the depth of Chimney Breast
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.31 PM
Hi I am looking to increase the depth of my open chimney breast. I have found an open gas fire which I'd like installing however as it stands the edge of the fire sits proud. I need to increase the depth by approx 100mm I was hoping to do this as quickly as possible by using stud frame work. Would timber stud work suffice if it was wrapped in cemboard/fire retardant board and tiled? Or would metal stud work be more suitable due to the timber and void creating a greater fire risk. Thanks in advance (I know brick and block work would be the preferred method)

Me personally I would brick out the front and insert a piece of spring steel so it would be a feature in its own right .to me I would keep it simple altering things sometimes cause more problems than it's worth
