Rewire of house before extension

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

We are renovating a semi detached property and the house needs rewiring. We plan to have a small side extension built (12 square metres) early next year once all the plans are submitted. Is it a lot more difficult for the electrician to rewire the existing house first so we can get the house plastered and move on with work for the next few months or does it work out more complicated?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Provided you have plans for the extension a competent electrician will be able to design the new circuits in such a way that it will be relatively easy to extend them into the new extension once built. Cost wise, there will be a little bit more labour involved and two sets of certificates to fill out, but it is unlikely to add more than a few percent to the overall cost.

It will be more hassle to do it in 2 parts, although if the electrician is aware that you want to extend is shortly after, he/she can plan for that and rewire the existing property accordingly.
