How long to wait after removing chimney stacks to replaster?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.11 PM
Hi I'm getting both of the chimney stacks and a couple of first floor chimney breasts on opposite walls removed from my Vic end terrace. I'd expect the walls would take a while to settle after this. How long should the wait be before replastering? And does it matter if using sand/cement or gypsy or lime? Thanks in advance

You would be able to have the plastering work done straight away. To avoid any confusion the walls will need to be cleaned and PVA glue applied to bond any loose and dusty substrate. Once render has been done done leave to dry out. Then PVA again then apply multi finish plaster to achieve a smooth finish.

Hi
You can plaster straight away with no problem
But please make sure you give the walls a good hose down with water prior to plastering you can use any plaster gypsum would be faster as the others need time to set before you can apply the finish coats

Next day...
Only thing you'll need to prep surface for plastering. scrap off soot where chimney was, then wire brush the remaining bits off. Its a messing job!! I would use PVA or build grit(12 hours) before plastering.
I would use pre-mix plaster, hardware & multi- finish. Skim whole wall to make a nice job, edge to edge.
