Bad smell of "old" as enter into the hall

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hi, I have a question how to tackle the unpleasant odor that is got emitted as you enter the house - there is some "old" smell. No pets. There are no damp issues as such in the hall. Hall flooring looks good - cavities at the electricity were filled in and the flooring was levelled. New cold/pipes are in put in place by a professional. The hall walls are painted over a few layers of wallpaper dated a few decades. Could the hall walls be the source of the smell? If so, would getting the hall walls plasterboardered and replastered help in trapping the layers of old wallpaper in and rectify the problem of the bad odor? Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,very old wallpaper should have been removed as can harbour old smells.its a shame you went to the expense of decorating over the top before finding this out.replastering and fresh paint should cure your problem.
