I can see the plaster through the wallpaper

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

I have several walls / rooms skimmed and dry, ready to paper. I sized one wall twice letting it all dry out correctly. I then hung my Laura Ashley wallpaper, now still a week later I can see the light patterns of pink shading from the new plastering underneath. Before I do any more rooms should I mist coat the walls with a couple of layers of matt white first, then size, then wallpaper instead of just sizing?? To help get rid of the colour inconsistencies underneath Help please...!!

Lining paper or mist coating white will work. It's unfortunate that you have had this problem. I've hung a few Laura Ashley papers and haven't come across this. If it is a non-woven paper (paste the wall) then there is transparency in the paper, with those papers I always line first or coat white.

I would miss coat it with a white emulsion, let it dry it naturally then I would coat it again if the pink still grins through paint then let it dry again and then seal the wall and then paper 👍
